OUTLOOK
Today's volatility sees the Dow bouncing within a 150pt range, eventually ending the day up by 9.36pts, again on declining volume. This is the fourth consecutive day of advance although todays indecision appears to suggest that the rally may be waning. The index remains within striking distance of the important 12,800 resistance. I consider this important because a break of this level will qualify the short term time frame to be at the early stage of a provisional uptrend. This level is also significant because it has acted as support last Dec 2007 and reversed its role as resistance early Feb 2008 meaning that it is reasonable to assume that it may prove tough to crack but if a valid breakout does occur, it would signify that the sellers have given up their resolve at this level and that the buyers could rule in the short term. But that is just a potential scenario. If resistance does not give way and the index bounces southward, then the short term trend remains in a holding pattern with the possiblity of the broken symmetrical triangle morphing into an ascending or range pattern.
